Obituary of Alexander S. Kasparian GLENMONT – Alexander S. Kasparian, 19, of Glenmont died Monday, August 27, 2007 in Selkirk as the result of a tragic automobile accident. Alex was an absolutely exceptional person. Just 19 years old, he was mature beyond his years. He was exceptionally bright, and had an inquisitive mind and an amazing memory. He was frequently at the computer learning something new: the architecture of Chicago, where to order and then how to install a muffler for his beloved car, the art of filmmaking and his most recent passion - soul music. He was the one person in his family who truly loved his life, lived it to the fullest, and appreciated the littlest things. As bright as he was, he was able to teach and communicate his knowledge to others. He tutored students in Math for a few years, and was appreciated by his students and their parents for his patience and ability. He helped his family and friends with anything and everything. He willingly helped all of us with our various computer problems. His family would say that they followed him like sheep on their various trips – if Alex said to get on this subway or turn down this road – we did as he said. He loved his family, his friends, our pets, all animals, nature, music, history, good movies and so much more. He loved driving and his car, and everyone considered him to be an excellent driver. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed playing some amazingly funny practical jokes on family and friends. He was a very moral person, and wise beyond his years. He had a wide range of wonderful friends, who meant so much to him. He loved his job as a delivery person for a local restaurant because it involved two things he enjoyed: driving and earning money. He spent wisely, and saved his money even more wisely. He respected and enjoyed his co-workers and his boss. He was just an amazing individual. Alex was born in Albany on October 1, 1987, the son of Murat and Karin (Asbornsen) Kasparian. He graduated from BCHS in 2006. True to his nature, he agonized over which college to attend. His parents repeatedly reassured him that they were fortunate to be able to send him to the college of his choice, and that he should not concern himself with the cost of tuition. Many schools offered him generous scholarships because of his exceptional high school record. He finally decided to attend New York University, Stern School of Business, as a Stern scholar (although the price would be full tuition), because of its highly regarded reputation, and its location in the heart of Manhattan, a city he loved. He spent a semester at NYU, enjoying all that the city had to offer. However, he decided to transfer to SUNY at Albany to be closer to his family, and having concluded that in his opinion, the cost of tuition was just too high. His plan was to major in business, and eventually start and run his own company. Alex leaves behind his grieving family: his parents, Murat and Karin Kasparian and his sisters, Christina and Ani Kasparian, all of Glenmont; beloved cousin, Marilyn Kasparian of Albany; grandparents, Nisan and Leyla Kasparoglu and Dr. Matthew and Muriel Asbornsen; aunts and uncles, Arjanti and Alis Kasparoglu, Lionel and Madlen Balgin, and Luis Leon and Birgit Asbornsen; and cousins, Aras and Arpi Balgin and Pablo and Diego Leon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A wake service will be held at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 100 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to any animal care or rescue organization.
