Dear Kasparians, I know this letter is overdue so I hope you’ll forgive my tardiness. My name is Steve Girard and I lived with Alex at NYU last year. You probably don’t need a kid like me to reaffirm you of what an outstanding individual Alex was, but I’d feel ashamed if I didn’t. Alex might be the smartest person I’ll ever meet. His interests ranged from electronics to art to sports and his knowledge of all subjects was deep. Alex was constantly educating himself with books and questions and it was obvious he was sincerely fascinated by the things around him. Another thing about Alex that I’ll always remember is his cleanliness. He was constantly scrubbing dishes, swiffering the floor, and making beds. Once I saw him cleaning the sink handles with a Q-tip. Perhaps the most elaborate display of organization I’ve ever witnessed was Alex’s sock drawer. Instead of balling his socks up, he had them stacked in a triangular formation. This way his socks wouldn’t wrinkle and he could easily draw two at a time. Anyone who knew Alex would be amazed by a different part about him. He truly was an admirable guy with a genuine heart. My talks with him were unordinary and provocative. I probably learned more from him last semester than I did in any history class. I can’t begin to fathom how you must feel. I can’t attempt to sympathize with you because such a loss of a family member carries a foreign weight. All I will say is Alex was an incredible person and I’ll always remember him. Sincerely, Steve Girard
